Here in New Jersey they actually did change the name of a State Forest, just a few years ago. They renamed Lebanon State forest to Brendan Byrne State Forest, in honor of former governor Brendan Byrne who initiated (I think) all the Pinelands legislation that got us to where we are today with Pinelands preservation. He either initiated the legislation, or had some other important part in it. I believe he was a good environmentalist governor. He's somewhat of a hero because of that, and I think it's cool for a State Forest to be named for him, yet at the same time I really didn't agree with the re-naming. Lebanon State Forest was originally named for the old Lebanon Glassworks that used to be on the site. So it had a good name from the get-go. Barry

It would bring to the public's attention a superlative forest/trees site. I would never suggest changing the name of Mohawk Trail State Forest. Gary Prof. Gary A.
