ENTS,

Today I went to MTSF with Chris Matera to plan for a visit to Mohawk by some
state dignitaries, probably in November. I used to opportunity to remeasure
several important Mohawk trees. The Frank Decontie and Lee Frelich pines were
principal targets. I also measured a promising striped maple in the Algonquin
Pines. Measurement statistics follow.

Tree Species Height -ft Girth -ft

Frank Decontie WP 161.3 10.2

Lee Frelich WP 161.2 8.6

Unnamed STM 63.0 1.8

It was comforting to confirm that the Frank Decontie and Lee Frelich pines are
still solidly 160s. In addition, the unnamed striped maple turned out to be an
impressive 63 feet. The 63-footer is the 4th striped maple in Mohawk that
reaches to over 60 feet in height.

My objective is to bring up Mohawk's measurements to the present. Last week's
re-measurement of the Joseph Brant Pine dropped Brant out of the 160 Club. I
could only confirm 158.8 feet for the big pine.
