Bob,

Sweet! I truly enjoy your photos and reports. MTSF is amazing. I am
inspired by your passion and enthusiasm for MTSF. How many acres and
species are within MTSF? Those aspen are incredible. When I find them
there are usually only about a handful of them. The largest I have measured
here in SE Pa. is 4'1" x 87.5'. I hope to revisit the Airdrie Forest
Preserve tomorrow with my son, mostly to take some pictures. My first visit
was in June. The canopy was thick and I'm sure I missed the top on many of
the trees. I hope to find a 150' tulip poplar. I'll report on it later
this winter.

ENTS,

I short time back I mentioned to Monica that I was becoming
frustrated with my forest mission. Naturally she asked why. I explained that
I hadn't been making enough new big/tall tree discoveries. I was spending
too much time revisiting the same trees. I do like to check up on favorite
trees, but I need to add to my database. Soon thereafter, my world
brightened. I added the Neil Pederson Pine to the list of significant trees
- the northern most 140-foot white pine measured in Massachusetts.

Today, I went to MTSF with a two objectives: remeasure our
champion bigtooth aspen and visit the north end of the state forest. The
following table summarizes the results of today's solo measuring foray.

I was surprised to confirm the 126-foot aspen. John Eichholz had
a tag at the 4.5-foot spot. So, the first good news is that our champ has
not lost height. After leaving the grove of aspens, I went to a flat area at
the base of Clark Ridge to check on a cluster of tall ash trees. I confirmed
that the tallest in the group is doing fine. It is up to 143.8 feet. Sweet.

I then headed to the northeastern corner of the SF. The list
above tells the story - a new 150-footer. Sweet. It grows at almost the
northeastern boundary of MTSF and becomes the 87th 150-footer for Mohawk. I
had measured the trees several years ago when it had just reached 148 feet.
I forget about the tree. In the meantime it did its duty and grew. Sweet.

I also measured 3 pines in a ravine that I had previously
overlooked. My bad. They all broke 140. Sweet.

On the way back I stopped again at the aspen site, remeasured a
couple, and added a new one.

Images are attached. The first two are of the Lonesome Pine, the
new 150-footer. The new 120-foot oak is 3rd. The last two images are of the
145-footer - #1 of the Triplet Pines.

My concluding comment about the day. SWEET!

Bob
