A site is usually taken to be a stand or a group of stands, but within a 
small area.  It would be a patch or cluster of patches with certain 
soil  and physiographic features that allow tree to grow larger than in 
other nearby areas where water, nutrients and lack of shelter from storms 
are more limiting.

It could be for just one species or several species (as measured by Rucker 
index). And yes, one could define it with respect to species richness or 
other characteristics besides tree height and circumference.

I should stop now so that I have time to get ready for the Holidazle parade
