Larry,

Thank you so much for the photo - which is currently my screen saver! I love
your yard and the things you've done for the animals. But I also feel very
sorry for myself that I don't have a backyard and just this ugly fire escape
and a neighbor who hates birds makes loud noises to scare even 1 dove away now.
(The landlord did not renew her lease though and she has to move by end of
January. YAY! Karmic justice!). But when she's not outside smoking her
cigarette, I have had groups of up to 20 (more in the summer and fall) plus a
handful of pigeons who have discovered my little oasis...hopefully they'll keep
it secret.

As for raptors, sometimes red-tailed hawks come around, but that's pretty rare.
There are a lot of kestrels (not in winter though), but the doves aren't
terribly concerned about them.

I honestly don't know how doves can do so well right in NYC. I don't even know
where any of them roost. These animals surviving in the city (excepting the
rats and mice!) are amazing. It's so cold right now.

What a wonderful sight, Thanks so much for the pic.

Jenny

Jenny, I took this photo this morning of 120 dove eating there morning seed in
my backyard. Along with many squirrels, who eat sunflower seeds. I also have
a possum and a coon that feed at night. The windmill is a new addition for the
animals I made the base stand at work with some repair to the fanblades.
Someone threw it away last year and I finally made a new blade and straightened
it out, it works great and the animals seem to love it. Larry
