Doug, I just used a cylinder to the ground from 1 foot. Of course, this may under or overstate the volume (probably over) due to trunk flares and root notches. The cubage would by default be over stated since the tree is not circular in cross section- no tree is. Still though, probably within 8-10% of actual wood volume.
