I just used a cylinder to the ground from 1 foot. Of course, this may under
or overstate the volume (probably over) due to trunk flares and root
notches. The cubage would by default be over stated since the tree is not
circular in cross section- no tree is. Still though, probably within 8-10%
of actual wood volume.

I'm wondering how you calculated the volume of the tree below one foot?  How
did you estimate the girth at ground level?  Ideally I would have loved to
get a much better measure of girth(?) of this tree using the methodology
that you and BVP and others use.  Some time in the future I hope.  I really
hate the fact that I didn't measure the longest limb.  I completely forgot
about it while I was there!
