Hello List, What's a fair trade-in amount for a mint standard Rebel 2000 kit (body, EF 28-80, strap, and book) with the BP-200 battery pack? I was hoping to trade all that in towards purchase of a new Elan 7e body ($539, a fair price). I have several other lenses, so I only need the Elan 7e body and would be happy to part with the kit's 28-80 lens. The store I went to in Southern California offered $170 on the trade-in, which I didn't find acceptable. I left without the 7e :( The salesman wasn't very knowledgeable. He looked at my camera, which he agreed is in great condition, for at least ten minutes. At one point he thought it was partially broken because the focus points weren't glowing red like in the Elan. He could have sworn that the Rebel had that feature, until he checked a store model!! C'mon, that's basic knowledge. I know I might be better trying to sell my items on Ebay or elsewhere or keep as a second body, but I'm just curious what is a fair trade-in. I admit that I don't understand the used camera market. I get so sick of seeing used items for as much or more than the item sells for new at a place like B&H. I understand that values for discontinued items are hard to predict, but I am always amazed at what some current items sell for on the used market at local camera stores or Ebay.
