Hi Ray, I can tell you I own both the 500/4L IS and now the D30 and it's a
great package! Up until now I've been scanning my slides on my CanoScan
FS2710 (and will still continue to do so for those really high resolution
pictures).
I would say the best digital print you would get would be from the scanner
because this will give you the highest resolution (and film grain rather
than pixelation if you enlarge it 200 or 300%). However if you're looking
for prints up to 8x10 prints, and for quick access to your photo's, I would
suggest the D30.
I plan to use my D30 and 500/4L IS for Motorsports and Wildlife photography.
I will still be keeping my trusty EOS3 alongside me and this will still be
used on location, but I envisage taking more pictures on the D30 than EOS3.
This is purely because of the ability for instant access to my pictures and
the ability for it to record the aperture, focal length automatically for
me.
I'm also using two 340mb MicroDrive's with the camera (not at the same time)
and haven't had any problems so far with them. I can take a maximum of 265
JPG's or 95 RAW images per card (the latter I will be using mostly).
Enjoy!
