The Mk II is ever so slightly lighter than the Mk I and (supposedly) ever so
slightly sharper. I've never heard anyone complain about either.

At that price, you can afford to spend $500 to $1000 to repair any defects
and still be ok. For comparison, I paid almost twice that for my 400 Mk II,
though the condition was nearly mint. I've never regretted it--I've used it
almost every week for the last year. Sports, nature, etc. It's a good
focal length.
