Tom,

This question was addressed on this list just a few
weeks ago.

There are FD - EOS adapters available although the
coupling is purely mechanical. Canon makes an FD to
EOS converter which allows FD lenses(or your Tamron
300mm f2.8 with an FD adaptall) which are 200mm or
longer in focal length to be mounted on EOS cameras.
Stopped-down metering during manual focusing is
possible. The converter increases the lens focal
length by two-thirds of a stop.
