I agree with you here. In my opinion the 200/1.8 goes
about in the same catagory as the 50/1.0 (or
1200/5.6). Canon just wants to show that they can
produce such extrem lenses knowing that the market
will be very small for such lenses. I wouldn't be
astonished if they even lose some money on such lenses
when taking the development cost etc. in account.
