I finally got back my Elan IIE (50E) after putting it in for warranty
repair a second time. This was on a U.S. camera store's own extended
warranty. The symptoms were that the "Dead battery" symbol would flash
after every shutter release. Initially, a second push of the shutter
release would restore the info to the LCD and I would be able to take a
second exposure. Over time this deteriorated to not being able to take
one exposure, even with a new battery that would work in my A2. The
first repair, they only replaced the battery door. It worked for
awhile, restoring it at least to the original condition of flashing
symbol but being able to take an exposure. But this rapidly
deteriorated so that I couldn't even finish the first roll of film. The
invoice this second time says: "Replaced-Flash PCB; Repair-Charge Cam
Gear; Adjusted Exposure; Adjust Focus". The repair facility is not on
site, and no one at the individual store could properly explain the
repairs. However, I can hold the shutter release down on continuous
fire for several seconds, and the LCD doesn't blank out, and it keeps on
firing. So it looks good so far. Can anyone explain what the invoice
description meant? Too, this might help someone else with the same
problem. Rob, Georgia USA
