A couple of days ago I asked if anyone was familiar with the reported D30
focusing issue and had actually used one. Today I got a chance to try one
at Wolf Camera in Atlanta head to head with an EOS 7 with the same lenses
in the store. While this was not an exhaustive test, and couldn't be given
the circumstances, they seemed very similar in focusing ability. The D30
may be slightly less effective on low contrast subjects, although both had
problems with low contrast and reflective surfaces (as expected).
So I do not understand the reports. One employee at Wolf also works for a
sports shooting company. He was given one three weeks ago and used it at
the Georgia Auburn football game (American college football as opposed to
soccer) which was played at night in the rain (and televised) about one
week ago with very good results. He felt it was similar to his A2 in
focusing ability and that he had a better percentage of sharp shots with
the D30 as compared to his A2. He also felt that the instant feedback and
detailed shooting information available with each shot was making him a
much better photographer.
Regards,
Bill
