  Well, I'd try them out. You're the only judge of what's best for 
you. Everyone has their own ideas, unless you go by MTF scores.

  I was considering the Tokina 19-35 based on positive remarks from 
other people. I found one being sold second-hand locally, and the 
owner let me shoot a few trial pictures with it. The lens felt very 
solid and heavy - plastic-coated metal barrel, which was interesting. 
The MF clutch business (a sliding ring to disengage autofocus) was a 
bit weird. But I was thoroughly disappointed with the results. 
Sharpness was poor throughout the range, though colour was okay.

  I ended up buying the Canon 20mm 2.8 and I'm very satisfied with it. 
I already have a 28 and a 28-105, so the whole 28-35 range isn't 
important to me. I rarely shoot transparencies so I can crop if 
necessary. And I appreciate the sharpness and speed of a prime lens. 
But I've never tried the Canon 20-35 3.5-4.5 so I can't offer any 
opinions on that one; sorry.
