Andy,
I've owned the 35-350 since it was introduced several years ago.
It has proven to be my most versatile lens and is incredibly durable.
I've used it to shoot alpine skiing in temperatures far below freezing
for extended durations, and in the blazing heat of the Southern California
in excess of 110 degrees.
Accompanied by the 20-35L, together the two offer outstanding coverage
and quality.
I prefer using the 35-350 without the tripod mounting ring, although I
do keep it in my gear bag. I haven't found the lens to be cumbersome on
either my A2e (with additional grip) or 1N (with motor drive grip).
As for the Tele-Extenders, although Canon's specs don't show the three
units as being compatible, when the extra reach was needed I have used the
1.4x and 2x with the lens. Autofocussing is disabled, but the extended
focal length is realized. With the extenders the images are softer. When
used without, the images are wonderful throughout the entire focal length
range, with exceptional contrast and sharpness. Of course, not as
outstanding as a prime lens, but in one package, the 35-350 can not be beat,
in my view.
I also do use the 20-35 2.8L, 200 1.8L, 70-200 2.8L, 600 4L, and
28-105.
As with all my lenses, I periodically have CPS clean and service them to
keep them in optimal condition.
Feel free to fire any more questions if you wish.
Robert S. Greenstein, Esq.
