Andy:
I've used the lens for just about anything you could imagine --
photographically speaking. ;-))
I do use the 35-350 predominantly for outdoor shooting. However, I have
used it quite a bit indoors with a 430EZ with fine results.
I do strongly suggest keeping the lens hood on the lens at all times.
Not only does it protect the front glass/filter but it also provides a nice
resting chin for the front of the camera lens assembly when set on a flat
surface.
I concur with Thys comment that a rotating zoom design might possibly
have been more convenient, but the push pull hasn't been a problem. And I
don't know what sort of design issues Canon confronted while developing the
lens. A rotating zoom collar may have required far too much travel to be
practical. Nonetheless, after a very short time, I became quite comfortable
setting the dampening ring just right for normal use, and snugging it up
just a bit more to keep the lens short when not in use, hanging on the
strap, or camera grip hanging in the hand. I've not had any problems with
Zoom creep.
Rob.
