Well according to canon and the fully digital folks at the indianapolis
star, the D30 is not suitable for professional journalism work. The two
main reasons given were the durability (strength, weatherproofing, etc.)
and the autofocusing. Currently the standard at newspapers are d1's and the
520's, with the 620's somewhat falling by the wayside due to the cost
comparison with the D1. If you're not in any hurry, Canon has stated that
it will announce it's first professional digital SLR at the PMA in
february, with a probably release date in july/august. If you're used to
shooting with manual cameras or -1, -1N's then the d30 won't be up to speed
for you. It's more on par with an Elan series or the A2. But if that's what
you're used to shooting with, then it's a feature comparison. Durability
and proven in the field for the 520, also better autofocusing since it's a
-1n body. The d30 has superior image quality and fully compatible with the
EX flashes.
