You certainly can put L lenses on the IX. My wife has used my 200/2.8L
and ISO 100 film for very sharp (and aesthetically pleasing) pictures
with her IX. I will be the first to agree that the 24-85 lens and
anything faster than 100 film is not so spectacular. Also, getting
anything other than the standard print sizes from photo finishers, has
been a frustrating experience.
