I had a relatively similar problem with the mirror on my first 7E. It
jolted a little to the right just before settling down, then came back to
its position.

This was visible through the lens, but also when looking directly at the
mirror with no lens attached.

Dealer gave me a new camera.

Seems to be a common problem on the 7E, as two other people complained
about this on the rec.photo.equipment.35mm newsgroup.
