Bob,
You are of course right when it comes to Black and White. I don't think
inkjets are quite there yet when it comes to capturing the tonal range so
important to expression in B&W work. When I print B&W from my inkjet, I
almost always add a subtle tone to give the printer another ink color to
work with to create the range necessary. However, I still believe that for
color work (negatives or slides), it is extremely difficult to tell between
an inkjet print and a regular photographic print, not to mention the other
advantages you have to manipulate the image that most of us don't have the
expertise to do in a color darkroom.
