Chris,
I shall be interested to hear your comments about the ring-flash.
I bought the OCSC2 for use with my EOS50, 100USM Macro, 380EX and Stofen,
and any combination of the five!
In macro I cannot achieve the consistency that I want, so a ring-flash might
be the answer. If only it were cheaper.
I think that you will find that for macro use you will also need a focussing
rail. I haven't  bought one yet, but at 1:1 depth of field is incredibly
small, maximum aperture is, I think, only f6.3 and moving a tripod by a
small amount is really impractical.
I usually end up getting not quite close enough and then refocus, which
reduces the magnification.
I haven't tried using extension tubes or tele-extenders to increase
magnification as this will only make things even more difficult.
Of course when you get that special image it's all worth it.
