I'd be very interested in your comments about this. I've been meaning to
get into more macro photography and have been exploring lighting options.
Right now, I bounce off my 550ex or use natural light.
The MR-14ex seems interesting for several reasons. First, it can be used as
the master for a multi 550ex/420ex slave setup. This makes it appealing vs.
the ST-E2.....
But my main concern with the MR-14ex is that a ring-light produces rather
flat lighting. I know that you can turn off and/or turn down one of the
"halves" of the ring light, but am curious the results you'll get from such
"direct" (from the front) lighting. I know that a lot of macro work
requires flat lighting, but the stuff I'm most interested in (leaves,
mushrooms, insects) tend to look better lighted from the side.
In any case, please do let us know the results!
