Andy,

I too am not ready to move to medium format for weddings.  I opted for the 28-70 2.8L 
and I LOVE this lens for candids.  It is a little short for portraits.  Later in the 
summer I picked up the 70-200 2.8L and it is simply amazing for portraits.  You can 
not go wrong with these lenses.  

I was truly amazed at the sharpness in both of these lenses.  I could immediately see 
sharper images in my 4x6 proofs.  I have not blown anything up more than 11x14 but 
these look amazing for 35mm film.  

With that in mind I have kind of decided, why get a medium format for only 20-30 
images a wedding?  People have been very satisfied with the results from these lenses.
