It doesn't. Not in any useful way, anyhow. Camera tries to focus but
generally doesn't succeed. I have used that very combo and I find it
usable with manual focus only.

Then again autofocus isn't all that useful in macro shots anyway,
and that setup is quite useful as a travel macro option -- the tube
is much lighter than any macro lens as an addition to the 28-135.
