G'day Tim,

Thanks for the information!  I think that AF could be slow and unreliable
because of the combination of a single-direction focussing sensor and the
f/8 aperture.

But then, AF at f/8 was one of the EOS 3's selling points.  And Canon
marketing routinely showed the EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens as the
"standard" lens for the EOS 3, when it doesn't do so well with the f/5.6
either.
