With the 1.4x attached to the body and the 2x extender attached to the lens, the
camera reports f/5.6--maximum focusing distance is 30-40 ft. With the 2x
extender attached to the body and the 1.4x extender attached to the lens, the
camera reports f/4--maximum focusing distance is 10-15 ft. (Distance figures are
just eyeball estimates). When I attach the 1.4x extender, 25mm extension tube,
and 28-70/2.8L in the order: body -> extender -> tube -> lens, the camera
reports f/2.8. The extension tube, in effect, "negates" anything mounted between
it and the camera, in terms of what the body "sees." I thought this was
interesting.
