That's what I do, although I use NiCds and not even high capacity ones
(700 mAh). I don't know how many rolls they last, never shot that much on
a single day and I recharge them always before the next event. At the
*very* least I get 5 rolls, because that's the maximum I remember I shot
one day for sure. But it's probably more. I use intelligent chargers, so I
don't have to discharge them before charging every time, just once in a
while. Works great! Actually, I'm rather careful and always carry *two*
spare sets, but I never needed even one of them yet ;-)

This may be doable, I never tried. I don't think it's worth it.
There are chargers out there that can change battery packs consisting of
several cells, but I don't see the need for me to buy one and get it to
work with the PB-E1.
