Speaking of TTL flash and metering off the film - I've occasionally
wondered whether it's possible if differences in the reflective
quality of different film formulations might cause differences in
flash metering. I've never heard of this being a problem, though.

My copy of Canon's Flash Work book has a block diagram that seems to
imply that the TTL sensor does indeed measure light reflected off the
surface of the film itself. The E-TTL diagram implies that the E-TTL
sensor takes light transmitted through the main prism and split off
the viewfinder.
