Children and holidays cover a lot of ground in terms of photographic
possibilities; without a more specific description of what you're trying to
achieve with your photos--and of what you find unsatisfactory with the
28-80--specific recommendations are difficult to make. However, as a general
approach you might consider supplementing your current lenses rather than simply
replacing them. For example, at what focal lengths do you find yourself working
most often? Do you find yourself wanting more reach or a wider-angle? The
answers may help you narrow down your options, at which point you may find that
adding one or two fixed-focal-length lenses a good way to go, especially if
you're looking for improved image quality. Some of the better choices might be
the 200/2.8L, 100/2 or 85/1.8, 35/2, or 24/2.8, depending on your particular
needs.
