You know I thought te D30 did the follow the spot thing but then again I
don't recall seeing that mentioned anywhere.

What you CAN do if time permits is use FE Lock. Aim the partial metering
circle at your main subject, and push the "*" button. Then recompose and it
should work fine.

I have a D30 that, alas, I have to return to its rightful owner. It was on
loan. It's really a nice camera except for its slow firing rate. Can't wait
to see Canon's PRO offering.
