I have a M42 adapter for my EOS 500n (Rebel G) and I suspect they both work
the same way.

>Will this lens work on my camera?

Yes, AFAIK if you use the proper T adapter.

>Can I use it in Aperture Priority by setting it at, let's say f/8 and my
>camera will choose the right shutter speed?

Yes.

>How does my camera read its aperture?

The camera will never know the selected aperture.
You will need to stop down the aperture on the lens and meter with the
lens stopped down.

>Or can I use it in manual metered mode?

Yes, you can also use manual mode.

In Av mode, you select the aperture on the lens, the viewfinder will go
dimmer as you close the aperture, and the camera will select the proper speed.

In M mode, you select the aperture on the lens, the speed on the camera,
and the mettering scale will show you if the exposure is correct. Of course
the viewfinder will go dimmer as you close the aperture too.

In order to use the adapter, is very important that the lens stops down as
you twist the aperture ring, because there is no connection between camera
and lens.

Beware, because stopping down:

* Makes focusing more dificult

So the best way is use the sequence: focus, stop-down, meter, shot

* Reduces the light level wich reach the mettering cell

In muy camera I can meter from Ev 2 ISO 100 with a f/1.4 lens.
   That is 1/2s f/1.4 (ISO 100)
If you use a f/8 lens (5 stops more) the meter will need Ev 7, but it's
easy
to know if you are out of range because it's also 1/2s f/8

Your camera can meter from Ev 1 ISO 100 with a f/1.4 lens.
So, stop-down metering is ok with your camera up to a 1s exposure time.

You can also lock metering before stopping down, but you will need to
use a negative
exposure compensation equal to the aperture diference between open and
stopped
   down.

* Gives metering errors with big aperture lenses

    With a Super Takumar M42 50mm f/1.4 I get mettering errors from f/1.4
to f/2.
At f/2.8 or more mettering is ok.
With s Super Takumar M42 135mm f/3.5 mettering is ok at all apertures.

I suspect you will not get mettering errors with a f/6.3 lens.
