Cian:
The Power Booster PB-E2 uses eight AA batteries only. It will not accept a
2CR5. I also have a PB-E1 that I use on the EOS 3 occasionally and this
unit takes four AA batteries and also a 2CR5. You may use either power from
the 4 AAs or one 2CR5 via a selector switch, and the unit operates when just
one battery type is installed.
Like you, I find the weight of the EOS 3 plus PB-E2 full of eight AA
batteries annoying sometimes. Especially so when I am carrying a heavy lens
on it. So those times when I want to keep the weight down, and am willing
to give up the vertical controls of the PB-E2--which the BP-E1 does not
have--I use the smaller and lighter (280g vs 484g empty weight) BP-E1. The
BP-E1 gives me a good alternative power supply and I can buy much less
expensive AA batteries rather than the pricey 2CR5s, and I also get a better
more substantial extended grip with the BP-E1 attached.
