Hello Thomas,

If you aren't already aware, the upgrade is a free
offer from Sigma - whether your lens is under warranty
or not. Pretty cool, huh? The upgrade will not
affect its compatibilty with other EOS cameras. In
other words, it'll be compatible with all models from
the EOS7 release date and earlier (essentially all EOS
models ever made). Their site reads "This service
will be provided as a courtesy and will not affect the
lens performance with other Canon AF SLR cameras. In
addition, a cleaning and check of all lens functions
will also be provided at no cost to the lens owner."

Their HSM lenses do not require any upgrades, BTW. (I
also own their 70-200/2.8 HSM EX).

You can go to their website for more details:

Regards,
Cian
