Even though many of us have been screaming for a new pro Canon digital, I
doubt that 5% of the people on this list will actually be able to justify
buying one. I don't think Canon is losing much sleep over its lack of
presence at the top end digital market, since it is a significantly small
market ito sales.
Looking at sales figures of last year for digital cameras, I notice that the
biggest share of the market is held by Sony (allmost 50%!!) and that is
assumingly with low end Mavicas that stores images on a stiffy disk. With
Canon's name not even apearing in the top 5 (Nikon is 4th with a measly 7%
market share even though the D1 was selling like hotcakes amongst some pro
segments), I think Canon realizes by now that it is in the low end where
they have to put in a lot more resources.
Maybe we will see a pro digital in the foreseable future, but to myself and
95% other photographers, it will be of academic value only, even if it beats
the pants out of the D1 and others. Personally, I would much rather see more
and better lenses for my 20Mpixel+ film camera that can do 7 fps in bursts
of up to 36 at full resolution.
