Hi Henry,

I have a cheap "Optex" brand optical slave. It sits there
until a flash "tickles" it, then it doesn't stop laughing :-)
Until I turn off the power, or disconnect the slave.

The reason seems to be in the electronic circuitry. The sync
terminal or hotshoe on a "normal" thyristor or manual flash
shuts off after each flash, allowing the slave SCR (silicon
controlled rectifier) to reset automatically.

I suspect that the Canon EX Electronic flash sync terminal
on the shoe is always "live". The little SCR in the slave
doesn't stuck in its latched-on state.

I found a thread in Photo.net on this phenomenon:

Solution?
1) Ikelite Lite-Link $$$
2) Use the 430EZ flash, which behaves fine.

Cheers
Julian Loke
