Optically they're identical. The II version of the
lens has more aperture blades than the original 'I'
version, which makes for rounder, more pleasant out of
focus areas (better "BOKEH"). But this change was
actually made before the II version came out, so later
models of the 'I' version also have the improvement.
Personally, I wouldn't worry about it much.
