The way to pick (externally) if the 28-105 Mk I has 5
or 7 blades is that the first version had a little
flower (closeup) icon on the focusing ring while the 7
blade version had the word macro instead of the icon.
I originally owned a 7 blade version and traded it in
on a 28-135, then picked up an early version 5 blader
at an impossible to resist price. I really can't see
any great difference between them.

As Bob said, they're optically identical and the only
cosmetic changes seem to be to the rubber grips on the
zoom and focusing rings - build quality certainly
seems unchanged. In Australia the Mk II came with a
slight price reduction (about 8-10% less), so purely
from that perspective the MK II is better. In every
other aspect though there seems no advantage either
way.

Gary
