Along these lines, I was amused to receive the other day a PMA supplement to the
March issue of Chasseur d'Images, with a large notice on page 2 stating that the
information about new products from the Japanese manufacturers could not be
"communicated" until 1 April. The accompanying editorial indicates that Canon,
Nikon et. al. have apparently decided that product announcements should be
reserved for thier official Internet sites, so that the info can be released on
all such sites simultaniously. It seems that they don't like the way that
piecemeal "leakage" of new-product info might lead to critical comments or
unfavorable comparisons in the press before the products hit the market.
Presumably they also don't want "premature" announcements of new products to
hurt current sales of models that are being replaced.
As a result, I can't tell you what they have to say about the new EF Extenders,
or the new 2 Mpix Ixus and PowerShot models, or Fuji's new ISO 1600 color
negative and ISO 100 B&W films. However, since Ilford is a British company, I
can mention Ilford's "improved" Delta 400.
