thanks for the advice. I currently have a reasonably average (my third in a
year as the first two were pretty horrid), but will look into investing in a
monopod if they're as good as you say, as I already have a cable release.
I'll keep your tips in mind. FYI the Hong Kong Stadium, where the Rugby
Sevens are being held (that I'm shooting for personal gratification) is
very, VERY bright at night, so I suppose I'll shoot one roll of 400 and one
roll of 800 and hope for the best. The rest of the event is during the
daytime or early evening, so I suppose I'll stick with 400.

I would consider something around the region of USD375 for that combo to be
low-priced - I know it's probably asking a bit much, but I'm a bit strapped
for cash right now, although I know an EOS30 would cost more anyway.
However, if you're still interested at around that price (shipping is also a
factor, but we could discuss that) I could correspond with you through
