Because those who do use something different are
equally zealous in their fanaticism. Why would Canon
want to offend those who don't use the Arca? Now what
would be REALLY nicek perhaps, is if all the tripod /
head makers could agree on a standard QR mount.
Unfortunately, it's as likely as Nikon and Canon
agreeing on a common lens mount <g>.
