But apparently the folks who own the 70-200 f2.8 with 2X TC aren't talking
it up--they're the ones reporting slow AF!

I got it! and it IS slow... the 70-200 is extremely fast (my first L lens ;)
but the combo is pretty slowly, and it hunts pretty easy in lowlight
(conditions
inside) even with a 540 flash.. on a EOS 1, not using Ai servo it�s pretty
good,
but with it it�s just start hunting, why not TRY one yourself out before U
buy?
