In order of decreasing importance to taking a good photograph:
The photographer
The lens
The camera
So if you have a limited budget, and don't we all, you should put money
into improving your photographic skills first. A course, a book, a
seminar or something lit it.
Then, you should invest in the best lenses you can afford.
Last you should find the camera body that will hold the lenses, as it
doesn't have anywhere near as big an effect on the picture as everything else.
If I were you, I'd ditch the Elan 7e in favor of an old original Elan
and put some money into lenses. After I took a photo course, of course!
