Just an orthogonal thought here...
The 550ex fires at arround 1/10000 s (heavilily depending on the output needed)
As you *need* to freeze your subject, maybe you could consider
borrowing/renting/buying two other 550ex units and use them to light your
dancing subjects by using ETTL wireless flash...
