I have replaced the screens in my EOS 3 and my EOS 1V with the Ec-N screen,
which has a grid, and wonder how I ever got along without it. The center
intersection of the grid is right under the center AF point, so there's no
problem there. It's noticeably darker which might be a problem for some
people but doesn't bother me. It's wonderful both for helping with "rule of
thirds" composition and leveling shoreline shots & similar.
Before I got that grid I still sometimes absent-mindedly ended up with
whatever I focused on with the CENTER AF point at the center of the
composition, which of course when you see a slide or print, makes you go,
"ooooops" at the yards of empty background over the person's head or
whatever. These screens have reduced the frequency of Embarrassed Amateur
syndrome.
I never use ECF on the -3 because I've never gotten it to work reliably, so
I don't know if there's an effect from the screen. As to accuracy, I don't
use screens for macro work or anything else where measurement is critical.
