I've had one for a few weeks and here's what I think about it so far. My
other body is an EOS 1n (which I will be getting rid of soon) so that's what
I'll compare it too.

In low light the D30 has problems focusing for sure. Using my 550XEX helps
a whole lot, but you still get a fair amount of "hunting", even when using
faster lenses. The 1n on the other hand takes little work to get things in
focus in low light. In good light however the D30 is OK. Things seem to
pop into focus pretty quickly and accurately.

The flash exposures (with both the built in and 550EX) are OK, but not as
consistent as the 1n. Maybe it's because I'm not used to the ETTL flash...
and I've only used flash on a handful of situations with the D30 as well.

The feel of the camera is very solid. Not quite as heavy as my 1n, but a
lot heavier than say a Rebel. There's also a lag time when the camera is
started up and between shots which I have to get used to as well. It seems
to be faster than the average consumer digital camera, but then of course
I'm used to the 1n, which seems have zero lag time.

Image quality is superb. The auto white balance works quite good, and the
custom white balance is excellent... sure beat scanning in film and having
to get the color right.

Overall I'm happy with the camera. It has it's quirks, but the image
quality, and immediate instant gratification is worth it for me.
