Unfortunately, Leica doesn't have any fast zooms in the 28-70 range
(they halted production of their 35-70/2.8), and their long glass
costs more than most foreign sports cars.

Huh. That's one very tempting camera, I must admit. I don't
remember being all that impressed with its focusing screen, though.

I felt the same way. And the lens selection is rather limited, at
least for the timebeing. Too bad--Zeiss glass is hard to beat, and
is a better value than Leica.

I've stuck with my M6 and Hexar RF for a year and a half now, but I'm
really eager to find an SLR that will work for me (can't do macro or
telephoto with these rangefinders). I've been torn between the R8
(love that manual focus), the 1v (solid body, great features), and
the--believe it or not--Elan 7e (ecf, lightweight, fast AF, and the
quietist SLR of the bunch. The 1n RS also intriques me; I've grown
to appreciate short shutter lag (wish they'd update the AF though).
Cheers,
Dan
