Just a side story. A collegaue at work loaned his Nikon F-90X with a Tamron
28-200 and an SB-26 flash to his niece on her holiday.
To make a long story short, his niece tripped at the beach and dropped the
$$$ combo on the rocks that she tripped on, the Tamron lens broke in 1/2,
the flash broke off at the hot-shoe mount, the camera also suffered a pretty
nasty dent.
The lens was not worth repairing, so he got a new one, the camera was fixed,
the flash was fixed also, but intermittently will not work, although this
could never be recreated while in Nikon repair facility, he is going to be
getting a new flash.
While I told him his house insurance "should" cover this damage, but more
importantly his niece or her parents "should" pay for the damage or at least
the deductible, there needs to be a lesson learned here.
His answer was, "But she's my favourite niece!"
I don't exactly know what he eventually did, I suspect he ate all the cost
maybe even without contacting insurance company.
I know I wouldn't want to be in such a predicament.
Regards,
Ken
