A red filter will block out most of the visible spectrum but will let red and
infrared pass throught it (that's why you see it red actually! :-). It will
not have any effect in the AF. Even opaque infrared filters allow AF and you
can't see throught those!

PS: A curious side note: I reported some time ago to the list that red laser
pointers can help AF'ing if you point your subject with the laser and use the
focusing point on it.
