Have you ever heard of HDCDs?  High Definition CDs.....  

The reason 5.25" diskettes became outdated is the same reason CDs, as we
know them today, will become obsolete.  And eventually their
replacements will make them obsolete.  And so on, and so on.....

Then there were 8 tracks and "records".....
