The experts I know are just that, experts.  The Foveon people are marketers!

Lower noise is NOT an advantage to CMOS sensors except at very high
temperatures.  The big problem with CMOS sensors are that they have a
lot of noise and therefore limited dynamic range.

Price, on the other hand, is definitely an advantage.  That's why CMOS
sensors are used in all the cheap cameras.
